your university

If I go back a few years in my memories, the month of January had something exciting, but stressful: it was time to choose my future university. I had chosen my field of study, but now I had to know where I wanted to spend the next three years of my life.

Going back to university is a crucial step in our life as a young adult and it is important to really ask ourselves questions before launching into it with both feet in a vacuum.

I have prepared a small guide for you of things to think about in order to choose the right establishment of study. As many say, university is the most beautiful moment of our life, we still have to make the right choices.

Choose where you want to live

It is important to ask yourself where you see yourself living. Do you want to leave the family nest? Do you want to stay close to your childhood friends or move away from them? It is important to finally think about whether or not you want to distance yourself from your hometown. Some people need to leave it while others remain attached to their region.

Make your own a city that will charm you

Between Sherbrooke which offers you bits of life in nature, Quebec which offers you to discover a page of our history and Montreal with its festive atmosphere, there are big differences. You have to think about what kind of city you want to live in. What activities are offered nearby?

Do you want to attend a ton of shows, take walks near the old Castle or go fishing whenever you want? Ask yourself these questions, because they will determine your love – or not – for the place where you will study.

Opt for a university according to what it has to offer you

Each university has something different your university to offer its students. You just have to dig a little deeper on the websites to find out. You can also talk about it to people around you.

For example, Laval University is renowned for its international studies programs, while the University of Sherbrooke offers several Coop programs, alternating between studies and internships. It’s up to you to discover what experiences you want to have during your studies and to determine the university that will fulfill them.

Look at the differences between the programs

Depending on your field of study, the programs differ greatly from one institution to another. Choose a program for the particularity of its courses and do not hesitate to read the description of the courses. For example, some programs will prioritize theoretical learning, while in another university, the same

field would offer a learning-by-doing program. To do this, try talking to people around you who have studied in your field, but who have attended different establishments.

With that, I hope you’ll make a bold choice that you’ll like. When you’re in the right place, to say college will be fun for years would be an understatement
